48 STAR PAPER PARADE FLAG W/ OVERPRINT - VIVENT LES ALIES - WWII - FRENCH MADE:
48 star American parade flag with rare overprint that reads: Vivent les Alies, Creme Simon, Soins de la Peau. This basically translates to "Hooray for the Alies" followed by the name of a Women's beauty product, Creme Simon, and the company that produces it, Soins de la Peau.
The flag is made of paper, and was probably handed out by Soins de la Peau at the end of the war in reverence to the role played by the U.S. in liberating France from the Germans. Overprinted flags like this one are extremely rare in the WWII era. This particular flag was purchased in France.
Mounting: The flag has been framed with archival materials in a mid 19th century mahogany frame with exceptional early surface. Spacers were used to keep the flag away from the glass, which is u.v. protective.
Condition: Excellent. |
