Description....:
48 STARS, WAVED AT THE SIGNING OF THE ARMISTICE IN FRANCE, WWI, AN UNUSUAL PAPER EXAMPLE ON A BLACK STAFF WITH A SILVER PAINTED TIP: 48 star American national parade flag, made of heavy paper and affixed to a black painted staff with a silver tip. Likely produced in France in celebration of the Armistice, which was the signing of the treaty at the end of WWI. This flag was purchased from a Frenchman, and I have seen others like it before offered by French dealers and individuals, but they are extremely scarce in the States. Because the same story has accompanied the other examples of this flag I have seen, I believe that the story is very likely true. The painted staff and this type of paper flag are unique when compared to American made parade flags of the same era. Mounting: The staff of the flag has been hand-stitched to 100% cotton rag mat and the flag was placed in paint-decorated and gilded molding that dates to the 1860-1870 era. Spacers keep the object away from the glass, which is u.v. protective.
