Description: |
|
Loom-woven horse blanket, made circa 1880-1890. The colors consist of a rust/tan/clay ground, with traditional, Southwestern style stripes in combinations of salmon, mustard yellow, black, ivory, and tobacco brown. Constructed of wool and cotton, the long edges are finished, while the shorts are bound with hand stitching, by way of a blanket stitch in heavy cotton floss. Very generous in scale, the textile is original in this form, with neither maker’s label or leather straps. This is not a winter/summer design, but rather the same on both obverse and reverse.
One of the most exceptional blankets I have offered for sale.
Condition: Gently worn from use, with very limited areas of fiber loss and very minor fraying at the corners, and a couple of very minor stains. Overall exceptional for the period; a 9.5-out-of-10 among its counterparts. |
