WOOL HORSE BLANKET IN FOREST GREEN & BURGUNDY, WITH GEOMETRIC AND STRIPED DESIGNS, LATE 19TH CENTURY
Dimensions (inches): 85.5" x 82.25"
Description:
Loom-woven horse blanket, made circa 1890-1910. The striped and geometric pattern consists of lime green, sunfire red, and ivory, against winter/summer, reversible grounds of forest green and burgundy. Constructed of wool and cotton, the long edges are finished, while the shorts are bound with hand stitching, by way of a blanket stitch in heavy cotton floss. Very generous in scale, the burgundy side bears the original, circular, leather tabs with a strap and nickel-plated buckle.

Condition: There is a 2-inch, repaired tear and a very small hole [both of which will be repaired before shipping by my lead conservator]. There is a minor repair to 2” of the blanket stitch at one end. There are a few tiny spots of slight/partial loss, mild wear of the woolen surface, very modest bleeding in limited areas, and a couple of tiny stains.
