30" x 17" x 8" base & 25" x 26" x 9" base |
Description: |
|
This fun pair of folk art fish-hats, made ca 1920, are carefully constructed of wire, fabric, and leather. Their brightly painted surfaces were obviously executed in the manner of someone who was a professional artist. I have never before seen anything similar in my experience with early folk art and I expect that they were produced by a theatrical costume company, either for the theater or for parade use.
Condition: There are minor to moderate bends and losses throughout, with accompanying paint loss. |
