TRIANGULAR FELT SUFFRAGETTE PENNANT WITH PRINTED TEXT THAT READS: "VOTES FOR WOMEN", CA 1910-1920:
Triangular, felt, suffragette pennant with printed black lettering that reads: "Votes for Women" on a cheddar yellow ground. Violet and yellow were the customary colors of the suffrage movement in America, though red, white and blue objects are also seen. Violet and green were the colors of the women's movement in England. Large suffragette banners like this one are particularly scarce and sought-after.
Mounting: The textile has been hand-stitched to a background 100% cotton, black in color, which was washed to reduce excess dye. An acid-free agent was added to the wash to further set the dye, which was heat-treated for the same purpose. The mount was then placed in a black-painted, hand-gilded and distressed Italian molding. Spacers keep the textile away from the glazing, which is U.V. protective glass.
Condition: There is minor nick in the fabric at the very tip, but otherwise the condition is excellent. |
