Description: |
|
Mid-19th century dough table, with splay-leg, country Hepplewhite form, beautiful proportions, and terrific, salmon red and black painted surface. Generous in scale, the construction is of white pine. The tapered case is beautifully hand-dovetailed. The skirt and the continuing angle of the legs mirror image that of the case. The skirt is applied to with cut nails and the legs are pinned with wooden pegs. The two-board, fitted top has nailed splines. Probably of Pennsylvania origin and possibly Amish. Made ca 1830-1850, the patina is excellent.
Dough tables can be used in a lot of situations. They make great end tables, are very fitting for under a window, behind a love seat, or as occasional tables in an entryway or hall, or just about anywhere really.
Condition: There is a minor amount of old worm damage that is inconsequential to both presentation and structure. The piece is especially sturdy and sound. |
