STAG WEATHERVANE WITH TREMENDOUS, YELLOW-PAINTED SURFACE, FOUND NEAR PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS, circa 1840-1870
Dimensions (inches): 34" w x 38.5" h x 1" d, stand: 6" (please note that we can make any type of base or wall mount you desire)
Description:
Stag Weathervane with beautiful form and early, mustard yellow-painted surface with exceptional wear and patina. Made of sheet metal, hand-cut and hand hammered. I’d conservatively date this circa 1840-1870, but it could be much older, as the construction is more indicative of the 18th century than the 19th. Found in an outbuilding at an estate near Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

Condition: Missing an antler, but the loss isn’t visually apparent or negative. The black paint on the reverse is modern.
