Description....:
WWII era (U.S. involvement 1941-45) Marine Corps bugle, woolen sash, and a fringed, felted wool banner, specifically made to match and affix to the instrument.

Made of brass, the horn is stamped behind the bell, in the usual location, with text that reads: "Buglecraft, Inc.; Brooklyn, N.Y.; The firm was a major U.S. distributor of U.S. regulation bugles, in addition to other instruments. Established in 1930, in 1933 the Buglecraft acquired one of its major competitors, Rexcraft, aalso of Brooklyn, which had been in business producing instruments for the military and the Boy Scouts since 1919. Many Buglecraft bugles bore the Rexcraft brand name for many years to follow, though this particular example did not.

I have never before encountered a military bugle with an integral banner of this sort. Stunning in appearance, the combination is not only unusual, but visually impactful.

Mounting: The background is 100% hemp fabric or a hemp and cotton blend. The mount was done by out expert staff. A deep shadowbox was constructed using substantial Italian molding with a mahogany-like woodgrain surface, very dark brown in color. To this a gilded molding with a flat profile was added as a liner. The glazing is U.V. protective plexiglass.

Condition: There is very minor mothing in the red banner and there is moderate to significant loss of the fringe. The brass is pleasantly oxidized.
