RING TOSS GAME BOARD WITH MOSAIC STARS:
This is an outstanding example of a scarce form with a paddle-like shape and exceptional, polychrome paint in red, white, and blue. Targets surround each hook with great visual impact. The craquelure of the paint surface is both excellent and unaltered, but board's most unusual and endearing feature is its eight, painted mosaic tiles, in three different color combinations, which resemble Lemoyne star (Ohio star) quilt patterns. I have never seen anything like it. Painted on a single, yellow pine plank, and found in Kentucky, this is a masterpiece among game boards. Circa 1870-1890. |
