Extremely Rare 37 Star Parade Flag -- Great Star Configuration & Gold Fringe

Available: Sold
Frame Size (H x L):
Flag Size (H x L): 8.5" x 12"
Description....:
A fantastic and rare 37 star American parade flag with a great star configuration, gold silk fringe, and a fragment of the flag's original acorn-top staff. This is the best of only 5 known examples of this variety. I owned 3 of the other 4, which were considerably more fragile. The 37th state, Nebraska, joined the Union in 1867, shortly following the end of the Civil War. The 37 star flag was generally used from that year until 1876, when the 38th state was added. Mounting: The flag and its staff have each been stitched to 100% cotton twill, black in color, which has been washed in an acid-free agent to set the dye. The underlayment is acid-free foam core. The gilded frame dates to the 1850-1870 period. The front is u.v. protective plexiglas. Condition: There is moderate staining and some fabric breakdown, but the condition of this flag is the best among the 5 known examples. The rarity of the flag well-warrants its condition and its presentation is among the best of all the parade flags I have ever owned.
