Description:
PAIR OF CAST IRON ROOSTERS IN SCARLET RED POLYCHROME PAINT, CA 1870-1890:
These unusual, decorative, cast iron roosters were made sometime during the last quarter of the 19th century. They have great detail in their combs and feathers and are painted in a scarlet red polychrome with excellent, early surface. The castings are thick-walled but partially hollow. The tails are split and thus touch the ground at two points, evidently for stability. Found as a pair and being sold as a pair.
