Hand-carved wooden panel with a oil-painted portrait of a German Shorthaired Pointer. Beautifully executed, with tallgrass against a modeled sky of blue and drab yellow, the work likely dates to the period between roughly 1910-1930’s, though it could perhaps pre- or post-date this slightly. Whatever the case may be, the colors, form, and surface are wonderful.
Provenance: Ex-Denny Tracy (1940-2016), long-time Michigan dealer with great taste in small painted objects and a particular affinity for sporting-related items.
Condition: Small amount of varnish added to paint chip on muzzle. Minor losses along edges. Extremely minor dots of loss elsewhere. |
