Dimensions (inches): |
18" x 25" |
Description: |
|
American oil painting, on 18” wooden panel, of two hunting dogs on point. Made of poplar, the work dates between 1840 and 1870 and is likely of New York or Pennsylvania origin. The surface is original and untouched and the dark patination on the reverse is excellent. Signed “M.W. Carpenter” in the lower right-hand corner.
Though this is not a listed artist, what’s special about this example is the early date, the wide wooden board, and its American origin, in addition to the fact that the composition and colors are so appealing.
Condition: Very minor wear and flecks. Two very small nail holes near the edge from previous framing. |
