Description:
NEW YORK STATE BLANKET CHEST, WITH A WIDE, SCALLOPED FOOT AND SWEETHEART BOOTJACK ENDS, IN A BEAUTIFUL SHADE OF KELLY GREEN PAINT, CA 1810-1830:

Six-board New York State blanket chest with sweetheart-scalloped, bootjack ends and especially wide applied feet to match. The top is nicely molded top, with molded splines, and there is a pleasantly shaped oval escutcheon. The construction is of poplar with half-mortised and t-head nailed joinery. The striking, kelly green paint dates to the mid-late 19th century and is applied over an earlier green. The combination of color and form is wonderful.

Condition: Minor, expected paint loss. The lid to the wooden till inside is absent. The cast iron hinges are period replacements.
