Tiger maple, Native American canoe paddle in vibrant blue paint, made by the Penobscot Indians in Maine for the Hudson Bay Company. This type of large scale paddle was manufactured under contract with Hudson Bay for 50-foot-long barge canoes that were used to transport furs. The paint surface and patination of the exposed wood are very attractive.
