MUSTARD YELLOW WATER BENCH WITH GREAT COLOR, AND CRAQUELURE, AND SCALLOPED FEET, CA 1890:
Yellow-painted water bench with nice scale, saturated color, and an especially appealing surface with great craquelure. The top has worn, widely alligatored paint with a nice brown patination. Together these features result in an appearance that resembles old leather. The sides and legs have tighter separation and brighter color. The form is simple but very attractive, with nicely scalloped, reverse sweetheart cutouts on the bootjack feet. The size is a bit wider than usual and a bit taller and makes for a perfect coffee table. Made ca 1890. Probably of Pennsylvania origin.
Condition: There are no condition issues worth mention. |
