LATE 19TH CENTURY SIGN IN BLUE AND YELLOW PAINT: "HITCH NO HORSES HERE":
Late 19th century American sign with excellent colors, wear, and verbiage. Painted in black and shaded with chrome, the block style characters the text boldly reads: "Hitch No Horses Here By Order, D.G. Holmes." The background is a beautifully weathered, Robin's egg blue.
Construction: Painted on a softwood panel, molded along the top and bottom. Ca 1885-1900.
Condition: There is ample, attractive wear from outdoor use. The molding is absent from the right and left sides and a small piece along the bottom on the left is an early replacement. |
