Description: |
|
Child’s batwing chaps with brushed finish fronts and a scalloped design in the piecework of the upper and lower portions of the legs. The latter are decorated with half-round, silverplated studs, as-is the single pocket (merely decorative), which has a diamond shaped pattern and pierced diamond hole. There are appliquéd horseshoes with silverplate diamond studs and adornments and silver plated conchos with knotted leather ties. The backs of the legs are tan canvas. The belted binding is polished. On one side are tooled pictorials of a bronco, a dog or wolf, and a steer.
Mounting: The chaps were mounted and framed within our own conservation department. The background is 100% hemp fabric or a hemp and cotton blend (we use both interchangeably.) A deep shadowbox was constructed using substantial Italian molding with a mahogany-like woodgrain surface, very dark brown in color, to which a silver molding with a distressed finish was added as a liner. The glazing is U.V. protective plexiglass.
Condition: There is fading, soiling, and expected wear from use, accompanied by a small tear in the left leg. The belt is broken and absent on each side. |
