Description:
JUGATE PORTRAIT POSTER FROM THE 1904 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN OF THEODORE ROOSEVELT AND CHARLES WARREN FAIRBANKS:

Printed on paper this campaign poster was used in the 1904 presidential campaign of Theodore Roosevelt and Charles Warren Fairbanks. This beautiful image is one of the most detailed and colorful, with a dynamic eagle and flag motifs.

The supreme popularity of Roosevelt, who had succeeded McKinley after his assassination, did not necessitate a substantial effort on Roosevelt's part on the campaign trail. Fairbanks was as different from Roosevelt as one could possibly get. Reserved, soft-spoken, and conservative, the Ohio-born Illinois senator was nicknamed the "Indiana Icicle". Fairbanks was as good a balance as any, geographically, politically, and personally, to the progressive and outspoken, Rough-Rider from New York. Roosevelt appealed to members of both political parties, Fairbanks leveled out the ticket for hard-line, right-wing Republicans, and also solidified support in the growing and politically-important mid west, and only the firmly Democratic south voted firmly in opposition. Roosevelt beat his opponent, Alton Parker, by 56.4% vs. 37.6% in the popular vote, and by 336 vs. 140 in the Electoral College.

Mounting: This is a pressure mount between 100% cotton velvet and u.v. protective plexiglas. The velvet has been washed to reduce excess dye and an acid-free agent was added to the wash to further set the dye. The mount was placed in a black-painted, hand-gilded and distressed Italian molding.

Condition: There has probably been a loss of a small amount of white area around the perimeter of the poster, which was at some time mounted to canvas. It also appears to have been professionally cleaned and restored, which is perfectly acceptable in poster collecting.
