Description:
CHROMOLITHOGRAPH PRINT FOR THE BOARD GAME "SUR LA GLANCE", WITH CHILDREN SLEDDING, 1895:

Found in a printer's archive in France, this chromolithograph print for an 1895 board game entitled "Sur la Glance" (English translation "ice skate"), illustrates children sledding. Similar to "Chutes & Ladders, this track-style game has endearing images of kids throwing snowballs at snowmen, falling off their sleds, etc. The game was produced for the Saussine Co. in Paris. Leonard Saussine produced a wide variety of games and puzzles. He exhibited at the 1878 World's Fair, so the company was in existence at least from that date, and though he passed away in 1896, his company continued to operate into the early 20th century, run by his sons and widow.

Antique lithographed board games pair up fantastically with collections of wooden, paint-decorated game boards.

Mounting: The board has been carefully recessed into 100% cotton rag mat board, lined with 100% cotton, black in color, which has been washed and treated to reduce and set the dye. The frame is simple and black in color. The front is u.v. protective Plexiglas. Condition: Excellent.
