T. GUERTIN BLACKSMITH SHOP TRADE SIGN, CA 1860-80:
Tremendous, early Blacksmith's sign, maybe Pennsylvania German, ca 1860-1880. A great, early example with great surface. The text reads: "T. Guertin Blacksmith Shop" and is accompanied by silhouettes of a wagon wheel, a chamfering knife, a file, and an axe head. The lettering and images are black, while the background color lies somewhere between violet and gray. It's actually grey painted over an earlier red, which gives it lilac/mulberry colored overtones, subtle but very attractive.
