|LARGE & EXCEPTIONAL JOHN F. KENNEDY PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN POSTER WITH “A TIME FOR GREATNESS” SLOGAN, 1960
|Frame Size (H x L):||Approx. 56.5" x 40.5"|
|Flag Size (H x L):||44.5" x 28.5"|
|1960 JFK presidential campaign poster with an attractive portrait, strong patriotic colors, and a terrific slogan that reads "A Time for Greatness." The poster is signed along the bottom “Kennedy for President Committee, 260 Tremont St., Boston, Massachusetts” and the “Union Bug” (denoting that the poster was printed with union labor) appears in the lower right-hand corner.
Of the various posters produced for Kennedy’s 1960 campaign, this is certainly one of the best. The graphics are wonderful, but the slogan is what makes it particularly special. This style was produced in two different sizes, of which this is the larger and far scarcer, as well as the more desirable.
Mounting: This is a pressure mount between 100% cotton twill, black in color, and U.V. protective plexiglass. The background fabric was washed and treated for colorfastness. The black-painted, hand-gilded and distressed molding is Italian.
Condition: There was moderate loss along the lower, right-hand border, beginning approximately at the height of the shoulder in the portrait. This was repaired by way of underlayment of vintage paper, salvaged from another poster of the same exact variety that was in bad condition. There are a small handful of minor to modest tears along the border, and there is minor edge wear. There are but minor creases, because the poster was rolled for storage. There is very minor soiling along the lower edge and there is very minor fading in limited areas. Overall vibrant with bold presentation.
