DIMINUTIVE CHECKERBOARD IN SOLDIER BLUE AND BLACK PAINT, CIRCA 1820-1850’s
Dimensions (inches): 15.25" t x 13.75" w x 1" d
Description:
Small American checkerboard, probably of northeast origin, is a nice early one with great color. Painted soldier blue, with a black grid, the board is constructed of two pine planks. There is a simple, molded edge around the perimeter, affixed with cut nails and painted black. The surface is nothing short of wonderful and the modest wear, attractive. Made circa 1820-1840.

Condition: The brass ring is of the same period as the board, but is not original to it. There are a few tiny holes where tacks were once present, perhaps for some sewing or embroidery task. Otherwise there is modest, expected wear.
