PAINTED WOODEN MODEL OF A FORD TRI-MOTOR AIRPLANE, EXCELLENT FORM AND SURFACE, Ca 1926-1930's
Dimensions (inches): 13" tall x 34.5" long x 34" wide (wingspan)
Description:
Nicknamed the "Tin Goose," the Ford Tri-Motor was a three engine civil transport aircraft. Introduced in 1926 by Henry Ford, production continued until June 7, 1933. Throughout its lifespan, a total of about 200 of these planes were manufactured. The model was popular with the military, saw service during WWII, and was sold all over the world. It is interesting to note that, unlike his famous cars and tractors, Ford did not produce the engines for this aircraft.

This painted wooden model of Ford Tri-Motor airplane was probably made between the first year of the plane’s production and the 1930's. The form, the painted surface, and the overall condition are all excellent.

There is a neat hole in the bottom which would allow the model to be mounted on a metal shaft, like a weathervane or a whirligig. The model may have been produced for either one of these purposes, as the scale is correct and the propellers are free-spinning, but if this was the case, it was probably taken indoors in inclement weather and in all respects well-cared-for.
