Description....:
46 star American parade flag, printed on silk. Oklahoma joined the Union as the 46th state on November 16th, 1907, during Teddy Roosevelt’s presidency. Roosevelt had many friends in the Oklahoma Territory from his Rough Rider days, and ushered it through to statehood. The 46 star flag became official on July 4th, 1908 and remained so until July 3rd, 1912. Many 46 star flags were made earlier, however, in great anticipation of the future addition of the state, which had previously been appointed to Native Americans.

The stars are arranged in rows of 8-7-8-8-7-8, in staggered alignment, but with two justified rows in the center. These are placed on a canton that is nearly square in shape.

Note how all of the stars are canted slightly in either the 1:00 or 11:00 position. The stars with row counts of 8 have one point directed toward 11:00, while those with counts of 7 are oriented with one point directed in the 1:00 position. This adds a nice visual element to the flag's design.

The edges of the flag are machine-bound with an interlocking chain stitch. The colors are strong and its condition is exceptional.

Mounting: The flag was mounted and framed within our own conservation department, which is led by expert staff. We take great care in the mounting and preservation of flags and have framed thousands of examples.

The background fabric is 100% cotton twill, black in color. The cove shaped molding has a very dark brown finish, almost black, with red undertones and highlights. To this a black-painted, hand-gilded and distressed Italian molding was added as a cap. Spacers keep the textile away from the glazing, which is U.V. protective glass. Feel free to contact us for more details.

Condition: There are no significant condition issues.
