NARROW BLUE PAINTED PIE SAFE ON TALL LEGS, PROBABLY UPSTATE NEW YORK OR PENNSYLVANIA, ca 1870-1880's
Dimensions (inches): 57.5" h x 32.25" w x 15.75" d
Description:
4-tin, 2-door pie safe with paneled sides and reeded decoration throughout on the stiles and legs. The lofty, narrow form is particularly attractive, but the cupboard's best feature is its dry, blue painted surface with wonderful patina. There is a cast iron spinner a hook on the interior to clasp the doors. The wood is primarily poplar with white pine or fir backboards. The origin is likely Western Upstate New York or Pennsylvania. Made ca 1870-1880's.

Condition: There were once shaped returns in the corners where the front legs meet the front bottom stile. One was lost and replaced by a previous owner. A subsequent owner simply removed both. This offered a vast improvement stylistically and eliminated the replaced/ repainted brace. There is old tacked along most of the width of the back, adjacent to the top. The narrow bottom board on the back is a replacement.
