                            | HOOKED RUG WITH TURKEY-HEAD EAGLE AND RATTLESNAKE, ca 1890:
This graphic hooked rug bears an image of a turkey-head style American eagle gripping a long, coiled rattlesnake, on a modeled salmon background. The lighter border that runs about the 8-sided central medallion is comprised of folk interpretations of a rising sun that flank on left, right, top and bottom, separated by 8-pointed Lemoyne stars in each corner. Colorful but pleasantly toned, the design represents a beautiful example of late 19th century, patriotic American folk art. Made of wool.

Mounting: Professionally mounted on a stretcher covered in black fabric, tailored to the same size as the rug.

Condition: Faded with some expected wear from obvious use. Possible minor repair along the very bottom edge.
