|
Dimensions (inches): |
24" tall (drop from top of mane to nose when hung) x 34" deep x 8.5" wide |
Description: |
|
An exceptional, painted American trade sign made from carved wood in the full-bodied form of a race horse's head. Wonderful movement, tremendous folk character, and great early paint surface. Found in San Francisco, this carving probably marked a blacksmith's or harness shop. Made circa 1880-90.
Mounting: The previous owner had a taxidermist apply a wall mount that allows for easy hanging.
Condition: Perhaps there were once blinders over the eyes, but if so they are now absent. |
