GILDED GALLERY CLOCK, LATE 19TH CENTURY: 20 inch Regulator or gallery clock. Pine or chestnut case with original gided molding. Made by Brewsters & Ingrahm, though unmarked. Bears a repair tag stating that it was cleaned by Robert F. King, Jeweler, Thompsonville, CT, in 1889. This would be very near the date of manufacture. A beautiful example with a bold, step-down profile. Original glass, bubbled from age. Though these rare gilded examples look great anywhere, the porthole style form is particularly great for a beach house.
Condition of Case: Some repair of gilt loss at the very inner edge on the molding, close to the glass.
Condition of Works: The clock was in running order when I purchased it, but I have not run it since. I buy clocks for their beautiful cases, not their works. Even the best early clock can work one minute and not the next, and since I can not provide perpetual care, it is largely your responsibility to get it running and maintain it, though I can assist. I have a local clock expert who can assist and can travel for a fee. |
