                            | PAINT-DECORATED AMERICAN CHECKERS & CHESS GAME BOARD IN BLACK, SCARLET & CHROME YELLOW, 1870-80:
American game board with scarlet red checkers on a black ground, trimmed out with scarlet, chrome yellow, and white. Note the unusual oval-shaped designs that rest at the center of the pin stripes on each side. The board was most certainly painted by a professional, maybe a sign painter. The wooden plank is approximately half-an-inch thick, which means that it is planed fairly thin for a board of this size (approx. 19" square). The thickness adds to its fine nature, but it's the paint surface and colors that are really great. Circa 1870-80.

Crude outlines of a Fox & Geese game appear on the reverse, which is red.

Condition: There is minor, expected wear.
