FOREST GREEN & MUSTARD GAME BOARD, ca 1840:
Painted American checker board / game board, in forest green and mustard, with absolutely fantastic surface. Note how the thin yellow paint, while strong in color, maintains the sort of transparency that allows the green to show through in an attractive manner, and how the craquelure and separation contributes to this.
The board is made of thick, 5/4" pine, consisting of a 16" wide plank with a 2" addition to create the 18" width, with applied splines at the top and bottom.
Condition: Excellent early condition, untouched surface with minor expected wear. |
