| Political campaign parade flag, printed on lustrous fabric, made for either the successful 1980 or 1984 presidential run of two-term President Ronald Reagan, with two-term Vice President George H. Walker Bush of Texas, who would go on to win our nation’s highest office in 1988. Made specifically for use in the Lone Star State, stars & stripes-decorated characters read simply: “Texas Loves Reagan & Bush.” I have never before seen this particular flag, or any other with this slogan, or with any similar Texas verse, from either year of the Reagan-Bush White House. Due to the patriotic nature and Texas association, this is an extraordinary find. Mounting: For 25 years we have maintained a specialized department for this purpose. Our lead conservator holds a master's degree in textile conservation from one of the nation’s top university programs. We take great care in the mounting and preservation of flags and related textiles and have preserved thousands of examples. The background is 100% cotton twill, black in color, that has been washed and treated for colorfastness. The mount was placed in a two-part frame that consists of a step-down profile molding of shadow-box depth, that is very dark brown in color, nearly black, with reddish undertones and highlights, to which a hand-gilded and distressed Italian molding was added as a liner. The glazing is U.V. protective acrylic (Plexiglas). Condition: There is some scuffing and minor soiling within the white portion of the fabric to the left and above the lettering. There is very minor pigment discoloration in linear streaks across Reagan’s name, but there are no further condition issues. |
