BANNERETTE WEATHERVANE, MADE BY J.W. FISKE (NEW YORK), IN AN ELEGANT STYLE WITH A BEAUTIFUL, PIERCED, FLAG AND FAN DESIGN, 1880-1890's:
This elegant bannerette weathervane was made by J.W. Fiske in New York City of molded and sheet copper. The pierced flag and fan design is elaborately detailed and a firm step above the average banner of the period. There is a three-dimensional scrollwork finial at the top and a small whale's tail at the base to compliment the pattern. There are balls at three of the ends of the horizontal rods and witch's hat at the extended tip to create an arrow.
An example of the style is illustrated in Fiske's 1893 catalogue and the design was probably available in both the 1880's and the balance of the 1890's.
Condition: There is a dent in the ball at the back of the top horizontal. Otherwise excellent. |
