13 STARS, WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON CAMPAIGN, 1840, THE ONLY KNOWN PARADE FLAG PRINTED ON JACQUARD SILK, PICTURED IN THREADS OF HISTORY:
One of the best parade flags known to exist. The only one of its kind and the only known printed parade flag, in any period, printed on a jacquard weave silk. This exact flag is pictured in "Threads of History", The Smithsonian Press text on political textiles, written by their curator of political history, Herbert Ridgeway Collins (1979).
The flags of Harrison's 1840 campaign are not only the earliest of all political parade flags, but are quite likely the earliest of all printed flags. |
