EARLY NEW ENGLAND CHECKER BOARD WITH SLIDING ENCLOSURE ON THE REVERSE, 1820-40:
This small-scale New England checkerboard, in grey and black paint, is a wonderful, early example with great original surface. Little spur-like stars or flowers in each corner elevate its folk appeal, but the best part can be found on the reverse, where a wonderful little sliding compartment exists for the storage of checkers.
A few early checkers are included with the board. These are unusually small in size and are quite great; maybe not as early as the board itself, but earlier than most you will see and a nice accompaniment in any event.
Condition: Light, expected wear. |
