DIMINUTIVE CUPBOARD WITH RED AND BLACK PAINT SURFACE, CA 1880-90:br />
Diminutive American cupboard with a varnished, oxblood red and black painted surface that has just the right amount of crazing. There is one door with a glass pane. This has carving to mimic beveled panels and fluting. Made in the 1880's or 90's, the form has both Early American and Arts & Crafts movement features. On the interior there are pigeon holes in the top and a larger, open space below. The shelving seems to have been reconfigured at some point, but the front edges of the pigeon holes retain the same paint that is on the exterior with an excellent, dry surface. The remainder of the interior is natural with good oxidation.. The half-mortised slide latch and brass pull are wonderful and pre-date the cupboard by at least 30-50 years.br />
Condition: Generally excellent. The glass is probably replaced. |
