|
Step-back dresser with lollipop returns, Mohawk Valley, New York, circa 1790. Note the scrolled fascia with chip-carved dental molding that creates the very unusual, hooded top shelf, the applied cornice that terminates on the front, and the spectacular, salmon-red painted surface. This is one of the finest early American cupboards of its type ever to surface, comparable or superior to the best examples that exist in the leading American institutions. Picked from a home in the region.
