LARGE COLLECTION OF EARLY STONE FRUIT IN A 19TH CENTURY WIRE BASKET:
Large collection of early stone fruit in an unusually large, twisted wire basket with particularly attractive form. The basket dates to the second half of the 19th century, and the fruit is likely both 19th century Victorian and early 20th century. There are fifty five individual pieces, including varied sizes and shapes of apples, peaches, pears, plums in various colors, apricots, figs, oranges, lemons, strawberries, persimmons, a banana, a large walnut, tangerines, nectarines, and grapes.
What makes this pairing so much more colorful and dynamic than others is, quite simply, the great number of pieces of fruit, with such variety, in such a large basket. |
