Description: |
|
Six-board, paint-decorated blanket box with applied, beveled feet on the face and half-moon, bootjack feet with the same angled profile on the sides. Made of pine, the decoration is chestnut brown on an acorn red surface and exhibits a design that roughly approximates false graining, executed in the whimsical hand of a folk artist. The result is something that looks much like the ends of cut logs stacked upon one-another, which gives it an Adirondack appeal, and the pattern is complimented by a diamond design on the sides. The surface is exceptional, with beautiful craquelure, and the top survives in remarkable condition for a piece of rural made, 19th century furniture.
Made of pine, the interior is natural and there is a raised till / glove box on the right-hand side. The hinges are hand-cast iron. The most likely origin is upstate New York, though Maine and Vermont are possibilities. |
