EXCEPTIONALLY RARE, RED-PAINTED, SMOKE-DECORATED BLANKET CHEST, CA 1810-1840

Collectors of smoke-decorated furniture know that while it is common to see smoke decoration on white or yellow backgrounds, a background of red is extraordinarily rare.  That's what is found on this ca 1810-1840 blanket chest on bold, tall, applied bracket, Chippendale feet.  The chest is a visual stunner and survives in an excellent state of preservation.  Obviously well cared for, even the top of the chest retains much of its decoration.  The case is finely dovetailed, as are the feet.

Condition:  Lateral breaks in the feet have been repaired by simple regluing.  Neither paint or wood was necessary.
