Dimensions (inches): |
24.5" tall x 43.5" wide x 18.25" deep |
Description: |
|
Six-board Maine blanket chest, found at an estate in Gardiner, Maine, with reverse sweetheart, bootjack ends and with a sweeping scallop extending from tall, applied feet. The top has an ogee-molded edge. The brass escutcheon was perhaps added later in the 19th century, but has been with the chest ever since and adds a modest refinement to the country form. The construction is of pine with half-mortised and t-head nailed joinery. The blue painted surface is excellent and original. The combination of color and form is wonderful.
Condition: Minor, expected paint loss. Moderate scraped loss on right side above foot and on left side in the top center. Small area of retouch one side in the top center. The lid to the till is absent. |
