Description:
BANNER WEATHERVANE WITH AN EXTRAORDINARILY HUGE BALL, BEAUTIFUL FORM, AND GREAT VERDIGRIS SURFACE, Ca 1890:

Found in Pennsylvania on a stone mill along the Schuylkill River, near Pottstown, this banner weathervane exhibits the best the form has to offer. The geometric balance and original, verdigris surface are terrific, but perhaps the best trait is the ball it rests upon, which is of remarkable scale [larger than a basketball]. The construction of the sphere is also interesting. Carefully pieced in many vertical wedges, it represents the exemplary work of a skilled maker.
