BACKGAMMON AND CHECKER BOARD WITH GREAT COLORS AND SURFACE, 1870
American backgammon board, made ca 1870, with vibrant and original painted surface that includes black and scarlet red points and a diamond-shaped white bar on a striking, apple green ground. Whimsical black scrollwork appears on either lateral tip of the bar and the board is framed on both sides by a deep, black-painted molding that is affixed with cut nails.
The reverse side is a checkers and chess board with black and red-painted surface that is crystallized and scores a solid 10 or perhaps even an 11 on the scale of desirability among painted furniture and folk art collectors.
The colors and graphics of the overall presentation of this board are exceptionally good. All-in-all a fantastic addition to the holdings of any advanced collector.
Condition: Excellent, with only minor, expected wear. |
