ASSEMBLED COLLECTION OF LIGHTNING ROD FINIALS, CA 1860-1920:
This assembled collection of American lightning rod finials includes a nice representation of some of the various forms, including spears, a spiked acorn, a sunburst, and forked barbs that were probably meant to look like the lightning itself. All of these were meant to discourage birds from resting on the peaks of the structures they crowned.
Materials: Solid copper, zinc, and nickel-plated metal. |
