Cast iron medallion / plaque of generous scale, approximately 18" in diameter, with a rendition of the American federal eagle, superimposed on rays of the rising sun, that terminate in a a scalloped arch. A pre-Civil War building adornment--perhaps intended to mark government buildings, the well-worn but date of 1857 appears in the lower center, as part of the original casting. Beautiful form and surface, with dark patination.
Mount: Ready to hang, with a thoughtfully designed, welded iron wall mount. |
