Description: |
|
19th century American Parcheesi game board in salmon red paint, with a black grid and Pennsylvania Dutch, pinwheel-style hexes. In the home space (center), each corner is adorned with a scalloped design, so that the salmon area resembles the top of a Pembroke table. These are graphically balanced by semicircles in the extreme corners of the board. The overall design wonderful, as-is the original, early surface, which is exceptional, with beautiful crazing and craquelure.
Very large in size, at nearly twenty-five inches square, there is a molded edge around the perimeter, applied with cut nails. The reverse has an expansive checkerboard design for draughts (similar to checkers, but with a larger grid). Made circa 1830-1850.
Condition: Minor paint loss and scratches. 6-inch-long chips absent from the molded edge in one corner. A couple of round nails added, a long time ago, for stability. |
