44 STARS, 1890-1896, WYOMING STATEHOOD, SCATTERED STAR POSITIONING:
44 star American national flag, printed on silk, with strong royal blue and scarlet coloration. Note how the stars point in various directions, which adds a nice folk element to the design.
The 44th state, Wyoming, joined the Union on July 10th, 1890. The 44 star flag was generally used from that year until 1896.
Mounting: The veneered mahogany frame dates to the period between 1830 and 1860. The flag has been hand-stitched to cotton rag mat. Spacers keep the textile away from the glass, which is u.v. protective.
Condition: There is moderate staining throughout, accompanied by minor splits. |
