|
19th century American Parcheesi game board in black, gold, and yellow, on a rich, chocolate brown background with very attractive undertones of both red and taupe. Made ca 1850-1870, the alligatored surface is excellent, but the best feature can be found in it modernistic graphics. The black and red geometric designs remind me of 45-speed records, yet the imagery is just as much primitive as it is contemporary. The overall presentation is really compelling, with great artistic merit that continues to grow on me every time I view it.
Painted on an 18" wide, single pine plank. 18" long and approx. 1" deep.
Condition: Excellent for the period and the object, with but minor losses and less-than-expected wear. Excellent surface. Small repaired crack in one corner. |
