13 STAR RIBBON, WOVEN SILK, 1876-1910:
13 star American national flag ribbon made of woven silk and of the type used in military medals, political and fraternal items in the 1876-1890 period. These were also sometimes simply worn on a lapel with a stick pin.
Mounting: Hand-stitched to 100% cotton, black in color, which has been washed and treated to reduce excess dye. The modern molding is constructed of wood, but has a finish that presents like antique iron with rusted nail heads. Spacers keep the textile away from the glazing, which is U.V. protective glass. |
